Victorian, Large Sterling Silver Locket, With Hand Engraved Monogram, Hallmarked In 1879
A magnificent, Victorian Sterling Silver Locket with hand engraved monogram, hallmarked in 1879
This is a quality, heavy gauge, hand crafted, Sterling Silver Antique locket, the front bears a hand cut and hand engraved, applied monogram that looks to read C A I
The locket is in beautiful antique condition, the silver is heavy gauge, there are no dings or dents to the locket. There is a glazed panel to one side of the interior which is cracked, this covers a lock of hair which looks to have been there perhaps since the locket was first purchased so we have left in place but it can easily be removed by the new owner (or upon request we will remove it) if preferred
The monogram itself is beautifully hand crafted, each letter with a different style of engraving creating a stunning textured aesthetic to the front of the locket. The rear of the locket is plain polished. The locket is so tactile, with it's all smooth and silky rear and textured front
The locket is on the original bail ready to hand from a silver chain
Hallmark: To the front of the locket, Assayed in Chester in 1879, Lion Passant (denoting Sterling Silver)
Makers mark: T.L.M for Thomas London Mott of Birmingham
Weight: 26.7 grams
Dimensions: 62.3mm long including bail, 37.2mm wide, 12.3mm depth
Condition: very good antique condition, No dings or dents to the locket, there is a glass panel to one side that is cracked, which can be removed but we have left as is as it does look like this locket has been kept this way probably since Victorian times, there is a lock of hair behind the glazed panel and a clover leaf to the other side.
